Oil Tank Removal for Heat Pump Installers
Trade partner service across Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. You fit the heat pump. We take the oil tank off your hands — pump-out, removal or decommissioning, compliant disposal and the paperwork.

The Job You’d Rather Not Quote For
Every oil-to-heat-pump conversion comes with a tank attached, and it is nobody’s favourite part of the job. Residual fuel. Sludge. Hazardous waste documentation. Occasionally ground that turns out to be contaminated. None of it is heat pump work, and most of it sits outside what an MCS installation is insured for.
The customer, meanwhile, does not care whose problem it is. They just want the ugly old tank gone, and they are asking you.
MPD Tanks is the contractor for that part. OFTEC registered, working across Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex, doing oil tank pump-outs, removals and decommissioning as our actual trade rather than as a favour squeezed around something else.
Scope
What We Take Off You
- Pump-out of remaining fuel, and dealing with it — transfer, merchant collection or disposal
- Oil line disconnected, capped and sealed at both ends
- Fill point, vent and gauge removed
- Full tank removal, or formal decommissioning in situ where access makes removal disproportionate
- Licensed disposal, with the waste transfer note handed over
- Base lifted or left, whichever the customer wants
- Site left tidy
Your team never touches the tank
That is the point of the arrangement. No fuel handling, no hazardous waste paperwork on your side, and no exposure on a part of the job that is outside your competence and your cover.
How It Works
Fitting Around You
We work to your dates
Usually after commissioning, since most customers keep the oil system as a fallback until the heat pump is proven. Tell us when you want it done and we will work to it. We will not be the reason a job runs late.
Visible or invisible
Some installers want us to stay in the background and quote the tank work inside their own package. Others introduce us and let us bill the homeowner direct. Both work — tell us which before the first job.
Fixed trade pricing
Send tank size, a photo and a note on access and we will give you a fixed price you can build into your own quotation. You are not carrying the risk on an unknown.
Credentials
What You Need for Your File
- OFTEC registered oil tank specialists
- Fully insured — certificates sent before the first job so your compliance file is complete in advance
- Licensed waste disposal, with the waste transfer note issued on every job
- Work carried out to OFTEC standards and Building Regulations Part J
- Domestic oil tank draining handled in line with the Environment Agency’s low risk waste position LRWP 47
- One point of contact — not a call centre, and not a different subcontractor every time
If we open a job up and find contaminated ground, you and the customer hear about it immediately. We would rather lose the job than hand you a problem after the fact.

FAQs
Trade Questions
What exactly do you take off our hands?
Everything to do with the oil side. Pump-out and disposal of the remaining fuel, disconnection and sealing of the oil line, removal of the fill point, vent and gauge, and then either full removal of the tank or formal decommissioning in place. We hand over the waste transfer note. Your team never has to touch the tank.
Will you hold up our commissioning date?
No, and we would rather work after it than before it. Most customers keep the oil system as a fallback until the heat pump is running, so the tank job usually follows commissioning. Give us the date you want it done and we will work to it.
Do you deal with the customer or with us?
Whichever suits you. Some installers want us invisible and quote the tank work as part of their own package; others prefer to introduce us and let us bill the homeowner directly. Both are fine — tell us which model you want before the first job.
What are your credentials?
OFTEC registered and fully insured. We will send our registration and insurance certificates before the first job so your compliance file is complete before anyone turns up on site.
What if there is contamination in the ground?
We tell you and the customer straight away rather than lifting the tank and leaving it as somebody else's problem. Contaminated ground is a different job with different obligations, and it is far better identified at survey than discovered mid-installation.
How much notice do you need?
The earlier the better, but we would rather you called late than not at all. If you know at survey stage that a job has an oil tank on it, tell us then and we can price it into your quote from the start.
Do you cover our whole patch?
We work across Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex from Mendlesham, near Stowmarket. If you are just outside that, call anyway — we cover more ground than the map suggests.
Can you price tank removal into our quotes?
Yes. Send us the tank size, a photo and a rough idea of access and we will give you a fixed trade price you can build into your own quotation, so you are not carrying the risk on an unknown.
